Yale and Towne Medford Knob and Plate

Heavy single bronze doorknob and single door plate set made by Yale and Towne. Medford design.  Cir. 1897-1910. The doorknob is oval with incised striping that runs all the way around. The door plate is a simple, slightly shaped design. The door plate is marked with the Yale & Towne logo on the back.  The doorknob measures 2 3/4″h x 1 3/4″w. The door plate measures 7 1/4″h x 2 1/4″w.

The doorknob shaft is a unique 3 part shaft that was only used for a few years. This shaft will fit inside most standard antique unthreaded doorknobs, but modifications would need to be made to secure it, as the shaft was made to secure with a set screw threaded into the knob. Knobs made to be used with this shaft have a small notch on the inside of the neck that the groove of the shaft slides onto.  The existing knob is set with a pin. This was a security device for exterior doors. It is adjustable to two different settings.

A few very small scratches on the doorknob, but overall very good condition for age.

This Yale and Towne Medford Knob and Plate is an antique item and may show wear due to age. This may include scratches, pitting, patina, finish loss, rust or other general wear. We attempt to include any significant damage beyond regular wear within the description. We make every effort to clean as much paint, dirt and rust off of items while still leaving as much of the original patina as possible. Photos shown are of actual item you will receive.
