Lockwood Essex Door Plate

Door face plate.  “Essex” by Lockwood. Cir. 1914. Steel with dark patina. The plate features rounded corners with floral and swirl designs at the top and bottom which run partway down the sides. The door plate measures 7″h x 2 1/4″w.

Lockwood

Lockwood Hardware Manufacturing Company began in 1878 under Henry Sanford Lockwood and Henry W. Lester. In 1889, Lockwood purchased the Nashua Lock Company. After suffering a bit of decline due to the Great Depression, the Independent Lock Company (ILCO) absorbed Lockwood. In 1934, an Australia branch began which continues to this day The company was later reincorporated under the original name. It continues today as Lockwood under the Assa Abloy Group.
