Russell and Erwin

Russell and Erwin Manufacturing was founded in 1839 in New Britain, CT. under the name of Stanley, Russell & Company with founders Henry E. Russell, Cornelius B. Erwin and Frederick T. Stanley. Upon Stanley’s withdrawl just one year later, it became Matteson, Russell and Company to reflect a new partnership with Smith Matteson and John H. Bowen. Six years later, the company becomes Russell & Erwin. In 1851, it officially becomes known as Russell & Erwin Manufacturing Company. They merge with P. & F. Corbin in 1902, but continue to produce under the Russell and Erwin name. American Hardware and Russwin were also used off and on in conjunction with the Russell and Erwin name. In 1964, the division was again separates and is purchased by Emhart Manufacturing under the name Russwin. It continues today under the name Corbin Russwin, owned by Assa Abloy.
