Reading Valence Face Plate (Plate 18)

Door Face Plate.  The plate is made of wrought steel. “Valence” Design by Reading Hardware. Cir. 1923. The door plate measures 8 3/4″h x 2 /12″w. It features a unique shape and design with framed “suns” at the top and bottom.

Reading Hardware began in 1872 in Reading, Pennsylvania. It produced both basic and highly decorative builders hardware. Reading’s hardware was used in many notable buildings including the White House in Washington, D.C. The operation closed in 1950.
